From Victorian terraces by the canal to the main road, Hanwell cars take a battering. We fit performance exhausts and repair worn systems at our Hayes garage, with the cost explained first.
Terraced streets mean a lot of Hanwell cars live on the road, in all weathers, and make plenty of short, stop-start journeys. That is hard on an exhaust. Water collects inside the silencer, the metal rots from within, and one day you notice a rasp that was not there last week.
If that sounds familiar, we can help. MTS Garage Services is a family-run garage in Hayes that looks after cars and vans of every make. We will inspect the system, explain whether you need a repair, a replacement or a sports upgrade, and put the price in front of you before any work starts.
The rear silencer, often called the back box, is the part most people mean when they ask about a sports exhaust. Swap it for a performance version and the sound usually becomes deeper or crisper, and the box is often lighter. A full cat-back system goes further, replacing the pipework from the catalytic converter to the tailpipe. Neither will transform how the car drives, and we would not promise otherwise. What you can rely on is a change in note, so think about whether you will live with it on the daily commute. We are happy to talk through sports back box fitting and cat-back exhaust systems in Hayes for any make.
Stainless steel is a popular choice for drivers who park outside, because it copes with damp far better than mild steel. Even a good system needs sound mounting, so we check the brackets, rubber hangers and clamps whenever we have the car up. A cracked bracket lets the pipe knock against the underbody, and a small leak at a joint can be cured with a new gasket or section instead of a whole new exhaust. Exhaust silencer replacement in Hayes is one of the commoner jobs we do, and we will show you the damaged part so the work makes sense.
A road-going exhaust must keep within the legal noise limit and leave the car's emissions equipment intact. Before ordering anything, ask the seller whether the system is made for your exact model and engine, whether it keeps the catalytic converter in place and whether it is meant for road use. Ask us about fitting costs too, since stainless and extra pipework can change the labour. Consider the neighbours as well, as a terraced street amplifies noise. A well-chosen system sounds good without annoying anyone, and we are glad to help you pick one.
Hanwell sits on the main road through Ealing borough, known for the flight of locks on the Grand Union Canal and the railway viaduct. Its Victorian and Edwardian terraces mean plenty of on-street parking and cars that are used little and often. Our garage is at Chesterfield Way in Hayes, and we cover Hanwell as well as Southall, Greenford, Osterley and Hounslow. Give us a call, describe what you can hear, and we will tell you whether to bring the car in for a quick look.
We also help drivers with performance exhaust systems from nearby Southall, Greenford, Osterley, Hounslow, and the garage in Hayes is the base for all of it.

Often it is a loose heat shield, a failed bracket or a worn hanger, which are quick and inexpensive to sort. It can also be a broken internal baffle in the silencer. Have it checked soon so a small fault does not spread.
Listen for a ticking or blowing sound on a cold start that fades as the system warms, look for black soot around joints and notice any fumes smell. A leak can let exhaust gas towards the cabin, so please do not leave it for long.
It depends on the condition of the pipes and joints. If the rest of the system is sound, replacing just the rear silencer can be enough. If it is corroded throughout, a full replacement usually makes more sense. We will show you what we find.
