Not sure which service your car needs? Here is a plain guide to the choices, what gets checked, and how we explain the work before anything is done.
Regular car servicing plays an important role in keeping your vehicle reliable, efficient and safe to drive.
At MTS Garage Services in Hayes, we provide scheduled vehicle servicing for a wide range of makes and models, helping drivers maintain their vehicles and identify developing mechanical problems before they become more expensive.
Whether your vehicle requires an interim service, a comprehensive full service or maintenance based on its manufacturer's recommended schedule, our team can recommend the appropriate work.
During a service, we inspect relevant components, replace scheduled service items and highlight any additional maintenance that may be required.

The three service types differ mainly in how much gets looked at. An interim service suits drivers who cover a lot of miles, or whose car is due a check between bigger services, and usually covers the oil and filter plus a round of safety checks. A full service goes further, adding items that only need attention every so often, such as the air filter and cabin filter, along with a wider inspection of brakes, steering and suspension. Manufacturer-schedule servicing follows the maker's own list for your car's age and mileage, which can include a fuel filter or brake fluid where the schedule calls for it. If you are unsure, tell us the make, model, mileage and when it was last serviced, and bring the service book if you have one.

Oil and filter come first: the old engine oil is drained and replaced along with the oil filter, because oil breaks down and collects dirt over time. Beyond that, we look over the parts that wear quietly. Brake pads, discs and fluid level are inspected, the battery is checked for condition, and coolant, brake fluid and screen wash levels are topped up or flagged. We look at tyres for wear and damage and check suspension and steering parts for play or leaks. Air and cabin filters are replaced when the service calls for it, and a fuel filter where the car has one that is due. If a warning light is on, a diagnostic check can read the fault codes. Anything found beyond the service itself is explained to you first, with a clear estimate.
Vehicle makers publish recommended service intervals, and a competent independent garage can service a car to that schedule using suitable parts. The motorist-choice rules opened servicing up to independents, and MTS Garage Services was founded on that idea: drivers should be able to choose who looks after their car. Many people worry about their manufacturer warranty. Using an independent garage does not by itself invalidate a manufacturer warranty when the work is done to the manufacturer schedule and with suitable parts, but you should check your own warranty terms, particularly on newer cars or where an extended plan applies. Keep the invoice and service record each time. We work on cars and vans of all makes and models, so ask us if you are unsure what your vehicle needs.
A Full Car Service Hayes drivers can book covers the oil and filter change plus the longer-interval items, such as air and cabin filters, with a wider inspection of brakes, tyres, steering and suspension. It is sometimes called a Major Car Service Hayes garages offer once a year or at higher mileage. We report what we find and give an estimate for any extra work before starting it.

It centres on fresh engine oil and a new filter, topped-up fluids and a set of safety checks on brakes, tyres, lights and battery. It is lighter than a full service, so we will say if your car needs more.
Read more →Oil and Filter Change Hayes visits cover draining the old engine oil, fitting a new filter and refilling with oil suited to your engine. Fresh oil protects moving parts and helps the engine run cleanly. It suits drivers who only need this task between services, and we can check fluid levels and tyre condition at the same time.

We carry out the work to that schedule using suitable parts and record what was done, which helps keep a clear service history. Check your own warranty terms if the car is still covered.

Most manufacturers suggest a service every twelve months or at a set mileage, whichever comes first, though the exact interval varies by make and model. Your handbook or service book will say. Cars that do mostly short trips, stop-start driving or heavy loads may benefit from more frequent oil changes, so tell us how you use the car and we will advise.
Not always. Many drivers alternate between interim and full services, or follow the manufacturer schedule, which sets out what is due at each stage. A full service is usually worth doing once a year or at higher mileage because it includes items the interim does not. Tell us the mileage and last service date and we will recommend the right level.
Using an independent garage does not by itself invalidate a manufacturer warranty, provided the work follows the manufacturer schedule and uses suitable parts. Terms differ between makers and between extended plans, so check your own warranty paperwork or ask the issuer if you are unsure. Keep the invoice and service record after each visit as evidence of the work done.
We explain the fault, recommend the work and give a clear estimate before any repair starts. Safety items such as worn brake parts or damaged tyres are flagged as a priority, while others can be noted for later. You decide what goes ahead, and we do not carry out extra work without your agreement.
Tell us about your vehicle and we will be in touch.
