Clean oil and a fresh filter protect your engine from the inside. MTS Garage Services in Hayes carries out oil and filter changes on cars and vans using the grade your engine actually needs.
Engine oil does more than lubricate. It carries heat away, holds tiny particles in suspension and protects moving parts from wear. As it ages it thickens with soot, picks up fuel and moisture, and slowly loses that ability. The filter fills with debris and eventually cannot catch any more.
An oil and filter change Hayes drivers can book with us is a short, routine job, and one of the most valuable things you can do for an engine. Drivers from Uxbridge and Southall come to our Chesterfield Way workshop too. We work on all makes and models, from small petrol hatchbacks to diesel vans.

There is no single answer, because it depends on the engine and how it is used. Makers set an interval in miles and a time limit, and whichever comes first applies. Short, stop-start journeys, towing, dusty roads and heavy loads all put oil under more strain, so some vehicles benefit from changing sooner than the book says. Your handbook or service record gives the schedule for your car. If the oil warning light comes on, or the dipstick shows very dark, gritty or low oil, do not wait. Low oil can do serious harm quickly, so check the level regularly between visits.
Oil is not one-size-fits-all. Modern engines are designed around a specific viscosity and specification, and diesels with particulate filters often need a particular low-ash type. We check what your manufacturer requires and fit oil that suits the engine, then record what went in. If you would like to know why one type is used over another, ask and we will explain. Some points we cover before starting:
We warm the engine slightly so the oil drains well, then lift the vehicle, remove the sump plug and let the old oil run out. The old filter comes off, the new one is fitted, and the plug is refitted and tightened properly. New oil goes in to the correct level, and we run the engine to check for leaks and for pressure at the filter. With the car up, we look underneath for leaking seals, damaged hoses, worn tyres and anything else visible, and let you know if something deserves attention. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.
Many drivers worry that using an independent garage will affect their manufacturer warranty. Having work done outside a main dealer does not by itself invalidate a warranty, provided the work follows the manufacturer schedule and uses suitable parts and oil. Warranty terms vary, so check your own paperwork or ask the maker if you are unsure. Call us or get in touch with your registration and what you need, and we will explain the job and agree the estimate before starting. If you want a wider check, we can also look at a full or interim service.

Yes, in almost every case. A new filter is cheap compared with the oil it protects, and an old filter holds dirty oil and debris that would contaminate the fresh fill. Changing both together is standard practice.
Park on level ground with the engine off for a few minutes, pull the dipstick, wipe it, reinsert it fully and read it again. The level should sit between the two marks. Some newer cars check electronically, so see your handbook.
A small top-up with the wrong oil is better than running low, but it is not ideal. Mixing grades can affect performance, so use the specified oil where possible and have a full change done soon after.
Yes, it is a core part of any service, but you can also have it done on its own. If you are unsure which suits your vehicle, tell us the mileage and the last service date and we will suggest what makes sense.
