If your car or van whistles, smokes or feels flat when you ask for power, the turbo may be involved, but other faults can copy the symptoms, so we diagnose before we repair.
A turbocharger uses exhaust gas to spin a small turbine, forcing extra air into the engine. It runs at very high speed and relies on a constant film of clean oil. That makes it a hard-working part that suffers quickly when lubrication or air supply goes wrong.
At MTS Garage Services we look at turbocharger repairs Hayes drivers need on petrol and diesel cars and vans. We also deal with the engine side of the problem, including rebuilds and replacement, when the damage has spread.

A siren-like whine that rises with revs, blue or grey smoke from the exhaust, noticeable loss of power and an engine management or limp mode warning are the classic signs. Oil use that climbs without a visible leak is another. However, split boost hoses, a blocked particulate filter, a sticking actuator or an air leak can feel very similar. A new turbo fitted to the wrong diagnosis simply fails again.
We read fault codes, then inspect the intercooler pipes and hoses, the air filter, the oil level and condition, the exhaust path and the actuator or vane control. We check the turbo itself for shaft play and oil in the intake. If you have been driving with low or dirty oil, we say so, because that is the usual cause of failure. The aim is to find why it struggled, not just that it did.
Depending on the result, the answer may be a hose, an actuator, a cleaned or reconditioned turbo, or a replacement unit. When the oil feed and return lines are blocked we clean or renew them, otherwise the new turbo is starved. If metal fragments have travelled into the engine, or oil has damaged other parts, the wider engine needs assessing, and rebuilds or replacement are options we can discuss. We never promise an outcome before inspecting.
Regular oil changes with the correct grade, letting a hot engine idle briefly after hard driving and fixing small oil leaks quickly all help a turbo. To book, call us or get in touch, describe the noise, smoke or power loss and give the vehicle details. We will arrange a time at Chesterfield Way. The estimate depends on the engine, the cause and the parts chosen, and we agree it with you before repairs begin.

“Always very friendly and knowledgeable and go the extra mile to get you up and running!”
“Best garage around the only one I use now for both my cars Friendly staff and management nothing is too small. Would highly recomend Quality work carried out”
“My request and my car looked at and reported to me, as to my next move, honest response from the staff.”
It is not wise. A failing turbo can pass oil into the engine or throw fragments into it, and heavy smoke can mean it is getting worse. Reduce use and call us so we can advise before more damage is done.
Most failures come down to oil: low level, old oil, blocked feed pipes or hot shutdowns. Foreign objects in the intake and exhaust problems also cause damage. Finding the cause matters, otherwise a replacement may fail the same way.
No. Boost leaks, faulty sensors, blocked filters, fuel problems and actuator faults can cause the same loss of power. We test the system and show you what we found before recommending any parts.
Yes. We offer diagnostics, repairs and servicing, and also engine rebuilds and replacement where damage goes beyond the turbo. We explain the choices clearly so you can decide what suits the vehicle.
