Clutch slipping on the A40 or struggling in first gear at home? Our Hayes garage works with Northolt drivers, finds the real cause and quotes clearly before any repair is started.
Northolt sits beside the A40 Western Avenue, with mostly 1930s and post-war housing and RAF Northolt close by. It is the kind of area where a car gets used for school runs, commutes and trips onto the A40, which means plenty of clutch work from both slow roads and faster dual carriageway.
We are MTS Garage Services, a family-run independent garage in Hayes. Cars and vans of any make and model are welcome. When your clutch gives trouble, we check it thoroughly, explain what we have found in simple terms and provide a clear estimate before we carry out repairs.
Begin with how the car behaves under load. If it accelerates poorly and the revs climb, that is slipping. If the pedal grips at the very top of its travel, wear is likely. Shaking as you move off, stiff or grinding gear changes, a pedal that feels notchy or a rattle that changes with the pedal all deserve a look. Our approach is simple: a test drive, an inspection of the pedal and linkage, and an honest verdict on whether you need a slipping clutch repair or something less extensive.
Changing a clutch means removing the gearbox, so we replace everything that wears at the same time: the friction plate, the pressure plate and the release bearing. Skipping one saves little and invites another failure. We then inspect the flywheel. Solid flywheels can sometimes be resurfaced. A dual mass flywheel with excessive play, noise or heat marks is better replaced, as a worn one can shorten the life of the new clutch. We show you the evidence so you can make an informed choice.
If the pedal is soft, drops to the floor or will not rise, look at the hydraulics first. The master cylinder converts your foot movement to fluid pressure, and the slave cylinder turns that pressure into release movement at the gearbox. Leaks, air or worn seals interrupt that chain. Some cars also have flexible hoses that swell with age. Replacing a clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder is usually a more modest job than a new clutch. We confirm the fault with tests before ordering anything, which protects you from unnecessary work.
Northolt is in Ealing borough beside the A40 Western Avenue, so many local journeys start with a run along a busy road. Our workshop is on Chesterfield Way in Hayes, and we also work with drivers in Greenford, South Ruislip, Southall and Yeading. If the clutch is slipping but the car moves, bring it in and we will inspect it. If it will not engage a gear, call before attempting the journey.
We also help drivers with clutch replacement from nearby Greenford, South Ruislip, Southall, Yeading, and the garage in Hayes is the base for all of it.

It can, because engine power is wasted as heat in the slipping clutch rather than driving the wheels. The bigger concern is that damage spreads to the flywheel and pressure plate if you leave it.
We can often point you in the right direction from a description, but a proper diagnosis needs a test drive and inspection. Call us, explain the symptoms, and we will tell you what to expect.
With the gearbox out we can see the condition of seals, mounts and the flywheel. If we find something that needs attention we explain it and let you decide, rather than doing extra work unasked.
