A warning light or an odd noise tells you something is wrong but not what. We trace the actual cause on cars and vans, then explain it before any repair begins.
Modern vehicles are full of sensors, modules and wiring, and a dashboard light is only a starting point. The same warning can come from a cheap sensor, a split hose, a tired battery or something far more involved. Guessing at parts costs drivers money and often leaves the original fault in place.
At MTS Garage Services on Chesterfield Way, Hayes, we use vehicle diagnostics to narrow things down, then check the car itself to confirm. Our car fault finding Hayes service covers cars and vans of all makes, and drivers from Southall, Uxbridge, Hounslow and West Drayton regularly bring theirs to us.

Some faults announce themselves with a bright light, others creep in quietly. Common reasons people ring us include an engine management or ABS light, a car that struggles to start, hesitation when you pull away, poor fuel economy that has slowly got worse, or a gearbox that feels different. Intermittent problems are the most frustrating, because they vanish the moment the car reaches the garage. If you can tell us when it happens, such as cold mornings, after a long run or only when turning, that detail genuinely speeds up the search. Please do not ignore a flashing warning light or one that comes with a loss of power. Those are better dealt with promptly, because continuing to drive can turn a small repair into a larger one.
Here is the usual order of things.
Diagnosis time depends on the fault. A clear, constant problem can be traced quickly, while an intermittent one may need us to test under different conditions or follow a wiring run. Access matters too, as some components sit deep in the engine bay. Once the cause is confirmed, the estimate depends on the parts needed, how long the repair takes and whether anything else has been affected. We will not promise a figure before we have seen the vehicle, but we will always tell you what we have found and what the options are, so that you are never asked to approve work you do not understand.
Call us or get in touch through the website with the make, model and a short description of what is happening. We will agree a time for the vehicle to come in. It helps to bring any recent invoices if the fault has been looked at before, as that history can save repeating tests. If the vehicle is not safe to drive, tell us when you ring and we will talk through what to do. Our other repair pages, including van repairs, suspension and steering repairs and car electrical repairs, cover the work that often follows a diagnosis.

Usually not. A code tells us which system or circuit reported a problem, not which part has failed. A misfire code, for example, could be a spark plug, coil, injector or air leak. We use the code to decide where to test, then confirm the cause before recommending any parts.
It is still worth a check. Many faults are intermittent and store a code even after the light clears. The code can show what triggered it. If the light flashes or the car loses power, avoid driving it further and call us so we can advise.
Yes. We work on cars and vans of all makes and models. Vans often cover high mileage and carry loads, so we ask about how it is used, as that can point us towards the cause of a fault.
Yes. We explain the fault, recommend the work and give you a clear estimate before any repair begins. If we find something further once the work is underway, we stop and speak to you before going ahead with it.
