A remap changes how the engine control unit manages your engine, and MTS Garage Services will tell you honestly whether your vehicle is a sensible candidate before anything is changed.
The engine control unit decides how much fuel to inject, when to fire the spark and how much boost to run. A remap rewrites some of that software. Drivers ask about ECU remapping Hayes workshops can carry out for many reasons: smoother pulling, better response, or more suitable behaviour when towing or carrying loads.
We treat tuning as a conversation, not a menu. Car remapping Hayes customers ask about is only worth doing if the engine, the service history and the intended use all line up. That is why we begin with the vehicle, not the software, and explain plainly what is and is not sensible.

A petrol ECU remapping Hayes drivers request is usually about throttle response and how the engine delivers power through the rev range, and turbocharged petrol engines are especially sensitive to the condition of the ignition and boost systems. Diesel ECU remapping Hayes customers ask about tends to focus on pulling power at low revs, which suits vans and heavier loads. We make no promises about figures, because every engine, and every example of the same engine, differs. What we can say is that the software has to suit the hardware it is controlling.
Putting more demand on a tired engine is asking for trouble. Before we would consider any remap we look at the basics.
A remap is not just a technical choice. Tuning must suit the vehicle and its condition, comply with emissions and road-use rules and take account of manufacturer and insurance requirements. A modification may need to be declared to your insurer, and it can affect what a manufacturer will cover. We would rather you ask those questions now than discover the answers after a claim. We keep the emissions systems on your vehicle working as designed, and we will tell you if a request is something we will not do.
Phone or call in with the make, model, engine and what you want from it. We will say whether it is a good candidate, what might need doing first and what to ask your insurer. If we find an underlying fault, we explain it and give a clear estimate before any repair begins. We work with drivers around Hayes, Southall, Uxbridge and West Drayton. If you are only starting out, our Stage 1 remapping page covers the mildest level of tuning in more detail.

It can be on a healthy, well-maintained engine when the software is written properly, but it is never without risk. The engine's condition matters more than anything. We inspect it first and will tell you if we think your vehicle should not be tuned.
Usually yes. A remap is a modification, and insurers often want to know about changes that affect performance. Failing to declare one could cause problems if you claim. Ask your insurer directly and keep their answer in writing.
It can. Manufacturers and extended cover providers have their own terms, and some exclude engines with altered software. If your vehicle is still under cover of any kind, check the terms before you decide.
Often the original software can be restored, but it depends on how the file was handled and on the vehicle. Ask about this before agreeing to anything, and we will explain what is possible for your particular engine.
